Ask me anything

This page started out being an escape and a place to vent and write anything. That has changed now that I have a specific quest in my life that is my 1st Marathon in Chicago of all places. Hope you all enjoy and please feel free to leave any feedback or motivational notes.

How The Hell Am I Getting There?

So, if you don’t know, i’m in the process of getting mentally and physically prepared to run a FULL MARATHON in October.  You might be thinking, why is he preparing so early on.  Well, thats because I have this thing called inconsistency in my running schedule.  I don’t seem to find that pleasure like I use to in my running.  But now thats changed a bit and I’m finding myself inspired and wanting to run.

So I don’t have specific goals yet determined like time or anything.  I don’t think I really want to set anything like that because this is my first marathon (hopefully not my last).  I want to focus on running my own race and doing my own thing while out there.  So for me the most important thing is not to be put into one of those little carts that wheel you away.  How I manage to get there not sure yet, but I will be figuring that out during this month of what I will call, “How The Hell Am I Getting There?”…

So in order to do that, today I went out for a light run and wanted to get myself in a rhythm of running and off the hamster wheel (treadmill).  I think I selected a great day to run, as it was nice and sunny with a cool breeze.  The run felt good and not strenuous to the point like blah… I think I could have run a bit more but I think sometimes I take the fun out of my runs by just pushing it too much.  So like Ms. Yano has mentioned before, just go out there and don’t care and have fun with my runs.  So thats what i’m doing for the first few weeks.  I’m also excited about doing some runs in Holland!  As I’ll be on a project during these pre-training runs.

On that note, I’ll keep you all posted on how it goes.  The good and the bad!

Randomness

So I was not expecting to write a post today but I decided to as a result of my laptop getting a virus. (SiDeNOTE: these hackers have no freaking life in creating a disruptive virus. You have mommy and daddy issues you tools!).

Back to the post, so I’ve been thinking that I’ve lost track of my training goals that I made for myself internally. Also, the fact that I had a weight goal and I’ve not paid attention to that.

Now, my weight goal isn’t a big worry because I’ve been weight training and been able to sustain my weight around the same zone of 191-193lbs. That’s not too bad considering I haven’t done any real cardio training. Although this might be I have a little run called the Rock ‘n’ Roll 1/2 Marathon - Los Angeles on October 30th. as well, my goal weight is 180 for stage 1, which is a tough 10lbs away.

I know the vest way to get there is going to be combing the new weight training that I am doing now and adding the cardio runs. This will get me to where I want to get.

GOALS:
Weight - 180 (CURRENTLY 191.4)
Deadline - 11/30/11 (today’s date - 9/27/11)

1/2 Marathon - 3hrs (PR-3:15)
Daily Goal - 3 miles (2.5)
Pace - 9:30mins (currently 10:11)

Weight Training
Bench Press - 135 LBS (115)

Let’s see how these turn out. I think these are attainable and nothing out of left field. I can always adjust as needed.

Back to Posting

Okay, I think it’s time to get back to posting.  Why have I been away so long, well because I have been uninspired to write due to my training slump I was going through.  I had reached a point where training was more of a chore then a joy.  When that happens, who wants to train?  Who wants to think of going to the gym?  Who wants to push themselves when the drive to do it has been sucked dry?

Well, I’m back, I’m inspired, and I’m training!  Today I went to the gym and did some weight lifting!  Who would have believed I would be weightlifting?  I have always HATED weight training with a passion, but here I am pressing 95lbs my first full week!  It has a been a little struggle being that I am completely week in the upper body.  But it’s a start!  I can now do assisted pull-ups which i couldnt’ even do like that!

So, I’m taking tomorrow off from upper body weights and hitting the cardio work.  So I have me a 1 mile run scheduled and then doing some leg work.  Squats, leg curls, hamstring work… calf work.  I’m pumped!!!  I think I’m going to set me a personal goal that will coincide with my October Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon.  I’ll keep you reader(s) posted if you are interested at all.

Well, wish me luck and success!

Quick Post

Just wanted to say, that I’m proud of myself for being committed and going to the gym tonight after work, even though i felt really sluggish and blah!  But I pounded out 3.4 miles and I did a full circuit of upper body weight training… now I can’t really lift my arms, but that’s okay, cuz I know it’s for the best… I also am looking forward to my spin class tomorrow!  Woohoo… gotta make sure I reserve a bike by 9am!

Biggest Loser Challenge: Week 5 Update

So I forgot to post the update for the Week 5 results, but that could be possibly because I didn’t do so well.  I gained 2.5 pounds last week!  GRRR!!!  But I couldn’t help it, I was hungry and I was not going to deny my appetite.  So i splurged and enjoyed every single bit of it!  Now I am back on the wagon and ready to rear that ugly flab off me!

What’s more Kel lost weight and is now 5 pounds ahead of me!  I’m really excited that he’s continuing his good run and hope he continues it!  Motivates me more to be more disciplined and keep myself in check these last 3 weeks of the contest.  I’ll keep you guys posted, and wish me luck because I have a weekend trip with Churro and Label Liu up to Portland where I might have a week moment and stuff my face with awesome food!

No Excuses November

thespartanwarrior:

I’m challenging you to get in 15 workouts with no excuses over the course of the month of November. That’s it. It’s just 15 different days of workouts without making up an excuse, complaining or trying to squirm your way out of getting active.

Who’s up for this?

Long Day…

All right folks, quick update… had a really long day at work as I couldn’t focus on what the hell I was doing.   This really irks me because all of a sudden all my work is pretty much do tomorrow… what does that mean… i’m screwed… well anyways, i guess i ended my day well by doing a couple activities… first i did my weight training session and i starting to notice that i am growing stronger as my reps are getting better and i don’t have to take weight off at the end nor cut my reps short.  Still working on doing dips after i have done some liftting… my tri-ceps are still not where they are suppose to be… which annoys the hell out of me… alos, i still can’t do more then 5 pushups after a full work out has been completed as all my energy has been sapped…

So all that means is that i have to keep working at it and try and get stronger… i do have to do some cardio in there somewhere… so i think thats what i’m going to do in the morning instead of leg work…

Also, tonight was my first softball league game and it was pretty interesting… some of these kats on the team take this ish really seriously… but i think its really fun although i almost ate it in the outfield becuase i didn’t have any cleats on… so i was slipping and sliding everywhere… o and on one of those slips i think i may have strained my lower back… we’ll see about that in the morning.

I think the next league i want to join is a kick ball league… those look like fun… anyone out there want to join one or know of one let me know!

finally, can’t wait for this dang weekend to begin i need the RnR… it’s been a minute since i’ve had a good 4 day weekend… but then again, i’ll probably be bringing home some work to catch up and wrap before the end of next weekend… so hopefully everything goes smoothly!  That’s it for tonight… cheerio all!!!

Inspiring Night!!!

So I have to post again, as tonight at the gym was awesome!  I went with David (co-worker) to his gym (EQUINOX, I must say that this gym is no joke, you’re there to pump iron and get rid of lard or get out of my way… peeps in there are SERIOUS!!!).  I was thinking to myself, well it’s the night before my teams big weighin so let me get one more workout in… low and behold, I get onto a treadmill thinking I’m just going to cruise… no sir, no cruising here… i guess i walked in, in the very beginning of “SHREADMILL”… yes it’s exactly like what it sounds!  I can honestly say I felt like i was running the SF NWN run all over again!  The trainer had us doing 10% -14% graded hills on this thin at 5MPH minimum!  I”m like you SMOKING!!!  But she gave me the evil eye and I obliged… so for 30 mins i was doing variation of hills… then for the last 20 mins i was doing sprints… now this is where I even impressed myself… i was very scared at first because i’ve never pushed a treadmill faster then a 7.5 but this time, i was sprinting for 1 minute at 10mph!!!  (Oh by the way, this is for 3 reps!!!)  I was completely amazed that I was able to do this!  I’m so happy!  Now for a good nights rest cuz tomorrow we have our FINAL weighin and it’s Mildews going away bash!  Here’s to a HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!

Biggest Loser Challenge: Week 6-7 Results

Hey All!!!  Sorry it’s been a while since I have updated you on my BL Challenge at the office gym!  So in Week 6 I had a no gain/no loss week.  I was pleasantly surprised being that I ate horribly that week on 2 occasions.  I went into week 7 with a bit of a challenge, as I took a much needed weekend vacation to Portland with my two good friends Churro & Label Liu.

On a tangent, I must say that the food in Portland was to die for!  Every single place I visited made my mouth explode, except at Habibi’s… that place was horrible.

So in Week 7, after a weekend of food gorging walking to the point where my feet almost fell off, I hit the gym hard to get back on track.  Now, let me put in a disclaimer.  I ATE WELL in Portland so the week end result was actually really good in that perspective.  I lost 1.5 pounds with only 4 days of gym and having to go out for dinners twice during the week for b-days.  I enter Week 8 on a good roll and I played 3 hours of soccer today.  So I’m going to ride this high wave and finish as strong as I can.  I think I will give myself a WORD OF THE WEEK:

COMMITMENT

This word has always scared me, but I’m ready for it now!  Bring it!
